Well, it looks like my blog’s crashed again. I’m working on putting it back together…again. Maybe I’ll re upload some older posts to get things going.
This is a piece I did for the L.A. Myth Show, which is now up at the gallery of Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.
This is a (none too subtle) spoof of the ending of the original Planet of the Apes movie. I love that scene! It made a huge impression on me when I saw it as a kid in the theater.
Thanks to Daisy Church, who also has work in the show, for allowing me to use the fine photo she took of Big Boy under glass. You can see Daisy’s work at her blog, which is: daisychurch.blogspot.com.

This past year has been great, working with Bob Boyle on Wow Wow Wubbzy! Creatively, it was completely rewarding, since Bob let me be involved in so much more than just design. I also got to write three cartoons, storyboard one of them, write a song for another, edit the animatics for the song sequences and take part in story development of so many other episodes–from batting around premises for new episodes to script punch-ups to storyboard pitches. And working alongside Bob, and fellow creative directors James Burks and Steve Daye, was an experience I’ll always remember. The amount of great ideas that those guys come up with on a daily basis is staggering!
But, that’s done…so now I have time to sketch and update my blog.
I recently took a design test for the upcoming Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time. I really admired the original short done for Frederator’s Random Cartoons, and was very excited to try my hand at that style. I was in my last days on Wubbzy, so I didn’t have much time that I could devote to it. But… in a fit of creative energy I banged out half a notebook’s worth of sketches in one very late night. Although, I didn’t really nail the style of the show, I had a blast just churning out drawing after drawing in pen and in a very imaginative and loose style that is very different from what I’ve been doing lately. Just getting into that creative head space inspired me to do more.
To kick off this new phase of my blog, here are a bunch of pages from the notepad I’ve been drawing in for the past two weeks. I’ve been trying to free up my imagination by drawing straight ahead with a brush-pen, and not worrying about where the drawing’s going…very stream-of-consciousness. Though most of them are not in the style of the show, they are very much inspired by Adventure Time…except for the Goth Majal which I stole from my daughter, Hannah, at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
Over time, my blog has become corrupt. So, I’m rebuilding it. I hope to have much of my stuff back up soon.
